So yesterday, i felt as though it were a dream or some type of a romantic comedy that i would secretly like... i.e. you've got mail. haha, tom hanks, meg ryan, classic!
I found out yesterday afternoon we didn't have bus call that evening but instead it was this morning. So with me sporting a smile and the feeling of spontaneity drenching the humid air, i decided to take Rach, my girlfriend for 8 months :), on a spontaneous picnic dinner in Centennial Park (thanks to Randy for the recommendation, i am still new to the city). It was around 5 o'clock when i decided this, so i knew good and well i needed to kick it into hyper-speed and get all the "fixins" together before it was too late! Without hesitation i ran to the local grocer (a.k.a. the Neighborhood Wal-Mart) and picked up the classic assortment of picnic delicacies. here is a glimpse if the menu i contrived:
Main Course:
turkey and cheddar sandwiches on wheat bread
A La Carte:
green and red grapes, on or off the vine
macaroni salad, chilled
doritos, flavored cool ranch
Dessert:
two pieces of cheesecake
Beverages:
bottled water
mountain dew, by the can
welches sparkling red grape juice (a must for any picnic)
After i left the neighborhood wal-mart, i dropped all of the groceries off at the house. and that is when it hit me "I DON'T OWN A COOLER and i need one if i have any hopes of making this picnic happen, so i drove a mile down the road to the wal-mart super center. there i puchased up the cooler, bug repellent candles, two plastic plates, 2 plastic goblets, and headed for the check out. as soon as that receipt hit my fingerprints i bolted toward the my car. put everything in the trunk, unlock my door, sit down. and again i forgot something. flowers! dessert! oh no, i am dropping the ball. so i jog inside for a quick recovery and grab some cheese cake from the bakery (it was really good, fyi) and some orange roses from the garden center ( i thought they were a good summer-esque choice) "Finally i have all of the necessary makings of a picnic," i thought to myself. I looked down at my clock to see i only have an hour until i am meeting her up. About this time it is 6 o'clock, ah the joy of rush hour traffic, we all experience it. luckily it wasn't too bad by this time so i made it home relatively quickly.
She drove to my house. I told her to text me when she got close, she did. but my phone was on its charger in my room, FAR away from me, on VIBRATE. so you can see the odds weren't in my favor. haha. I luckily got the cooler stocked and hidden away in the trunk of my car, with my trusty guitar as its passenger companion. So i'm in my room bout to check my phone, when i hear the front door squeak open, i politely yell, "uh, cl..close your eyes!" fortunately she did and avoided seeing the flowers i had nestled on the sofa in the den. i run in there and smoothly transition into presenting my pretty eyed girl with her flowers. she was flattered. i was relieved.
your chariot awaits, me lady.
Now for the fun part. the picnic! I tried my best to keep it a surprise but she could smell it from a mile away. I don't know how, but she did. Maybe there was a slight leak in this supposed air tight scheme?!?! or maybe i just wear my emotions on my face? or maybe i gave to many clues? yea, thats probably it. blast! my surprise plans were foiled! this girl is good. i mean blood hound good. she made sherlock look like a amateur scavenger hunter...ok, joke taken to far ha. Needless to say, i still attempted to deny her accusation until we finally arrived there. almost missed my turn, she almost thought she was wrong. ha.
we found a quaint little clearing amongst the trees, with the parthenon lighting up in the distance. so like the sooners in the land rush of 1907, we marked our territory with a the blanket/dining table. great news is we made it just in time for the sunset. perfect! as it time went on, the sky grew a little darker, the candlelight became more evident on our faces. i've always loved that effect. her smile accompanied by the flickering of candles was beautiful...after dinner i played a few songs for her on my guitar (could've written a sng right there!), which brought our first picnic (both individually and collectively) to a close.
oh what a fun night it was. sitting under the stars with her, watching constellations come into focus. intellectual conversation. laughs. even more laughs! and your telling me you the only other alternative is a restaurant, accompanied by music blaring in the "background" and noisy conversations.
i can get used to this whole picnic thing :)

Buenos Dias bloggers and type padded folk!
Today has been another early morning...see previous blog, i haven't made it much of a habit getting up too early but lately this whole ideal is becoming a bit habitual.
Me and the band are all loaded up in the bus and we are headed to Greyson, KY for Summer In The Son Conference. But i don't wanna dare wear SONscreen cause i willingly plan on getting a SONburn. hmm this sounds like it would make a good t-shirt for the conference. I'll work on it for next year haha i am only kidding.
¡Adios Muchachos!

Greetings from Atlanta...soon to be Hotlanta, due to crazy temperatures i am sure! crank it up, thats what i always say! if you are going to be at a festival, it needs to be good and hot. otherwise, why call it a festival. ha.
This morning i was lucky enough to catch breakfast. This is a milestone, due to the likely-hood of a) me NEVER waking up THAT early and b) uh, i don't really have a secondary point...i just like the way that all leads up. (it read very well, at least i thought so)
Anywho, after i got my scrumtralecent meal i rarely get to indulge in, i sat down at one of three very long picnic tables to find on each table (three to each table) a daily devotional. i thought i would share it with you!
Talk to ya soon!

Theme: make an effort to add to yourself...self control...to keep you from being ineffective in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Titus 2:11-12
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self controlled, upright and Godly lives in this present age.
Titus 1:8
An overseer... must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.
2 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist Him.
I remember. my mom would always correct me when i wasn't obeying and exhibiting traits of self-control. She hated to discipline me as much as I did...BUT she was required to since it is a bi-product of me not being disciplined/learning to harness this concept called Self-Control. The same goes with our Creator. He wants us to be Holy and focused beings. He knows us being self controlled, will help save us from alot of unnecessary heartache. We should be seeking him, being careful over our words and attitudes, and to resist all temptations so that we can be loving to others and effective in our ministry.
Let this be an encouragement to have self control. It is a fruit of the Spirit. We have been called to it. We will be blessed because of it!
Gotta get to soundcheck!
God bless.

I was very unaware of my surroundings on the day of Crossover Festival in MO, and to my surprise there was an Australian band there Jael (pronounced Jay-EL) Super nice people. I've only been in contact with a couple of "Aussies" in my life, so you can be sure I drilled them for answers with my sharp as a drill bit questions.
Here is some of what I learned:
they call cantelope "rock melon"
they don't have regular kool-aid like us in the states. it is made with a concentrated liquid which can also be used to add flavor to other beverages like pop/soda.
they call cookies biscuits or bickies.
they enjoy a very savory spread called vegimite (resembled the taste of beef jerky in a spreadable form with the consistency of mustard)
i leave you with a photo of me and the guitarist for Jael posing with the vegimite bottle!
g'day mate!

Good afternoon/evening to all of you from the state that bleeds wildcat blue: Wilmore, KY. (and yes i enjoy some WILDCAT basketball) Tonight we are playing at the Ichthus Festival. There are so many great bands/artists on the schedule. Jeremy, Skillet, Hawk Nelson, Casting Crowns, etc. Three days of straight premium Christian Rock. Along with gallons of sunscreen usage and chic-fil-a sandwich cramming.
Today has been a very fun day so far. Got to make new friends, catch some rays, and hang out with the band. I can already tell good times are ahead!
Later Gators,
-Andy
PS:I leave you with a cool devo i read not to long ago from a Charles Stanley Online DEVO...

Monday, June 2, 2008 - Lessons From the Prophet Jonah - Jonah 1
The Lord’s commands are clear. He tells believers when to act. He tells believers where to go. The Lord tells believers what to do. He also provides the means for following His directions.
The prophet Jonah was told to go immediately to a certain city. Jonah was to cry out this warning: “Yet forty days and Ninevah will be overthrown”. Instead, Jonah did something foolish. He ran. Jonah was a prophet. So, we can assume Jonah had studied the Scriptures and knew God intimately. Still, dislike about his “assignment” clouded his judgment. Jonah became convinced he could flee the Lord’s presence.
Jonah was wrong. God sent a great storm. God isolated Jonah for three days inside a smelly fish. The Lord didn’t end this experience until the prophet agreed to comply. Jonah learned that running away from the Lord doesn’t release us from His commands.
Whether we outwardly or quietly pursue our own agenda, we simply can’t silence His call. Our Father will neither forget nor change His mind about a command. The Holy Spirit continues prompting us until we do as instructed. Wise believers obey God promptly rather than waste time and talent by running.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What spoke to me was that we need to realize "that running away from the Lord doesn’t release us from His commands." How awesome is it that God is faithful in finishing a good work that he has started in us, even when fail to be faithful. (Philippians 1:6)
Ask yourself, "what is/has God commanded me to do?" He will reveal it to you in time! You may already know and just need to answer his call.
God bless.
